Cuno the company that manufactures the filter is a 3M company and of high quality so you know you are getting an OEM product. 3M originally made all the filters for Samsung Refrigerators.
I have the Samsung French Door Style side by side refrigerator and use this filter. It can be used in the Samsung refrigerators that use the short, round filter.

The filter works very well to clean the water. I have used some filters in the past that had a noticeable difference in water filtration quality. They usually last me about 6 months between swapping for a new filter.
The filter was designed to extend the life of your refrigerator because it removes a lot of the sediment that would have ended up in your ice machine. It does remove a lot of contaminants, but it also keeps the good stuff like fluoride.
The 300 gallon filter will have slower water flow than the 500 gallon filter, but I believe the 500's are tough to find.
The filters take seconds to replace. Simply twist out the old one, pull out, and insert and twist the new one. Be careful when you do this as there might be some water left in the reservoir that might get all over the place. I would suggest you put a towel under the filter when you are removing it.
